The Area Map and Events Guide was developed by Locust Grove Enterprises in 2004 and serves as means of providing visitors with a detailed listing of participating advertisers, broken down by communities along Routes 28 and 30. The guide also provides listings of events taking place in these communities. Locust Grove Enterprises is also responsible for selling the advertising for this publication. Locust Grove Enterprises has provided marketing services for the Belleayre Music Festival in Highmount for a number of years. Shown here is the festival’s 10th anniversary issue, produced by Locust Grove. This full-color ad ran in Chronogram, an arts-oriented magazine and announced the entire season’s lineup for the Belleayre Music Festival. Locust Grove Enterprises has worked for several years performing northeast promotional work on behalf of nationally recognized singer-songwriter Shannon McNally. Shannon has released two successful discs, "Jukebox Sparrows" and 2005's "Geronimo" and had garnered rave reviews throughout her budding career, including glowing recent remarks from USA Today and the Washington Post. Jon Pareles of The New York Times wrote in July 2005, "She has the voice: bruised, smoky and ornery, right at home where country and soul meet. She has the melodies and the timing to stretch a phrase and let it snap back right where a word will cut deepest. On her second album, "Geronimo" (Back Porch), Ms. McNally also has superb roots-rock production from Charlie Sexton, the Texas guitarist and longtime sideman for Bob Dylan, that can be rollicking or resonant." Bobcat Ski Center in Andes is one of a handful of “all natural” resorts left in the country. The ski center, which opened in 1963, relies on old-fashioned charm and this image is conveyed in Bobcat’s brochure. Representatives from the Colchester Chamber of Commerce approached Locust Grove Enterprises with the idea of producing a map of hiking and riding trails. The Chamber members came to the initial meeting carrying an old wrinkled black-and-white map with a lot of hand-drawn trails. After conferring with the Chamber representatives about their goals, this is the map that resulted. Country Memories is a bustling gift store near Cooperstown. The owner was interested in improving the store’s image via a new rack card. The old card was a one-color piece that had been designed “in house.” We visited the store to get a feel of the atmosphere and conceived and produced a full-color rack card that showcases the look and feel of Country Memories and its product line. Several years ago, Locust Grove Enterprises was hired to produce an 8 1/2 x 11 full-color Travel Guide for the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce. During the bidding process, advertising agencies were given the task of developing an overall theme for the guide. We produced a piece that is playful, yet professional. Three years later, Locust Grove created a new chamber brochure in a smaller format. We also sold and designed all the advertising for both pieces. We have been producing rack cards, and more recently a brochure, for the Delaware and Ulster Rail Ride in Arkville for many years. While certain elements change each year, the “look” of the piece has helped to establish the brand of this successful tourist railroad. The Greater Margaretville Chamber of Commerce was looking for a press kit cover that would be representative of the regional “feeling” of the community and that would also announce the fact that Margaretville had been the recipient of a Quality Communities Award. Joe’s Garage in Arkville provides rental services of classic and vintage automobiles. The proprietor wanted to capture the essence of his business in an easy to use rack card. We utilized several representative photos and a minimal amount of text to tell the story of Joe’s Garage in a very limited amount of space. Mountain Flame on Route 28, Arkville is a unique business specializing in lovely soapstone fireplaces, high-end woodstoves and numerous other soapstone products such as countertops, sinks and flooring. The owners of the family-run company were seeking a brochure that would appropriately highlight the luxurious nature of their products, while also presenting some nice background about the history of the family operation. We combined gorgeous photos with a number of interviews to achieve this goal. Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville is a state-of-the-art long-term care facility that opened in 1994. Management was seeking a brochure that would portray the many positive aspects of the skilled nursing environment. As a means of giving readers a feel for Mountainside, the brochure elements include a reproduction of the wallpaper border in the facility. For more than a decade, Locust Grove Enterprises has produced a winter travel guide for Ski The Catskills, a regional promotional organization with the goal of showcasing the area’s ski resorts and related businesses. Each year, Locust Grove sells all advertising for the publication and assembles all the necessary information for the booklet. In producing the travel guide (52 pages this year, with 50,000 copies printed), we constantly strive to keep the publication vibrant and in step with current ski and snowboarding trends. McIntosh Country Market & Auction Service was seeking an ad that captured the down-home flavor of the business. Sluiter Agency Inc., a family-run insurance and financial services company, was looking for an ad that conveyed the idea of security to potential customers. This advertisement has run for several years inside the front cover of the Margaretville Telephone book. The image will also be used as the identifying flavor on the company’s website. These are a few of the ads created for businesses represented in the Ski The Catskills Travel Guide. The Catskill Center for Conservation and Development was looking for an ad that depicted a clean, crisp look to summarize the organization’s focus, utilizing a small amount of text with several photos representative of the CCCD’s work. |
